shell necklace

Sophia collected many shells during our summer vacation in Holland. She wanted to give some to her best friends next door. Since some shells have a little hole in them we thought to make them into a necklace.
Sophia began braiding embroidery threat. The threat is small and hard to hold and so we had to come up with a motivation strategy. She counted braided up to 30 and then I took a turn counting and braiding up to 60. (Turned out it was a useful counting review at the same time!)

We pulled the finished braid through the hole and tied a knot just above the shell, so it would stay in place.

Here is Sophia modeling them, before joyfully running them over to the neighbors.
