My little blog has gone by the way side a little, as I am trying to keep up with everything else I am doing. Life is full and I like it that way, and then again I look forward to our summer break to breathe a little more fully and sit down a little longer and feel more relaxed.
I recently had to dig deep to search for and discover what it is that is important to me. As I was involved in a whirlwind of emotions, concerns, and upset I learned so much about myself and the path I want to walk in this life time.
I realized that I needed to come clear on my principles. How do I want to be treated? How do I want to treat others, personally and professionally? As a teacher how can I best serve children and families? What kind of an environment do I want and can I create for myself and children?
While I feel very grateful for the learning, inspiration, and joy the school has provided me with I have decided to move on. As a teacher there is so much trust and open heartedness needed and involved. I want for myself and the children I raise and teach a space where open communication is possible, where we can all strive to do our best, and feel safe to make mistakes, where families can collaborate, and be a part of discussions. I see the need for a place where people can agree and disagree.
Therefore, Barbara, my amazing mentor teacher, Theodore, and I are starting our own wisdom based school this fall. The Children's school is what we call it for now. The project is sponsored by Young Spirit Foundation.
I am excited about this new endeavor and look forward to sharing more as we go along here.
Last weekend we made some time to work in the garden. It was a wonderful afternoon, refreshing and rejuvenating to dig in the dirt. ;)
We chose the elephant as our school logo. Elephants are big and strong. They are peaceful and live without natural predators. In Asian cultures elephants are a symbol of wisdom and are famed for their memory and intelligence. In India the elephant deity Ganesha is known as the remover of all obstacles. Aristotle once called the elephant "the beast which passeth all others in wit and mind."
