kathe kollwitz

In highschool I was fascinated with Kathe Kollwitz art. Her drawings are not always easy to look at, but then again it is hard not to look at them. The way she captured people's faces, postures and gestures is very captivating and expressive. During her time Germany was far from pretty and her art gives us a little window into that time. I usually prefer to surround myself with uplifting art that affirm something positive. Some people might call this drawing depressing or sad, to me however it depicts the deep love and care between mother and child. At the same time Kollwitz did not leave out the exhaustion that this time can often bring. It is a reminder, that even though a mother can feel exhausted the love and care exists just as much!

On my thrifting trip to Goodwill I found this pretty little picture frame (originally price tag still attached $13 and I got it for $2.50, got to love Goodwill).

I knew instantly that this beautiful drawing had finally found a home.
