getting out of routine

Although I always try to have a routine in the life of my children, I also notice how quickly we can get into a rut. The basic routine is important, but little changes and doing simple routines differently is So important as well. Actually routine and spontaneity go hand in hand quiet nicely.

I notice this pattern with the students in my class, especially during circle time. The children thrive on the routine of circle time. They expect certain activities as part of our morning routine. Sometimes by simply doing them in a different order, or doing them outside instead of inside can work magic and magnetize good energy.

I have been feeling the rut coming upon us, and just tonight did I really become aware of it. Before bed time instead of reading a book we put a puzzle together. Instead of singing a good night song, I played my flute.

When I was younger I used to play my flute nearly every day. I am so grateful to my parents and my flute teacher who have helped me stay with the flute and practice this beautiful instrument for many years.
Picking up the flute tonight, my fingers just seemed to know exactly what to do. I pulled out some old pieces of mine; Mozart and Bach. Playing them made me a little nostalgic and I hope it won't be long before I play again, really play like tonight.

The children loved it too. I am glad that my flute made their evening a little more exciting as well.

Summer will be here soon and with that comes no more school or work, and a big vacation in Germany.

Here is what I would like to do:

~ make a bonfire at night
~ put puzzles together with Sophia and Mateo
~ sit by the water and read
~ go dancing
~ sing and make music with my sisters and children
~ make delicious smoothies
~ wear interesting outfits
~ balance routine and spontaneity

Here is to a magical, harmonious, fun and relaxing summer!
