conversation journal

This was an idea Theodore used with his students at CT Friends School, a conversation journal. Each student had a journal to write an entry to the teacher and the teacher would respond and ask questions. Since we spend a great deal of time being busy, just getting through the day, at school teaching various lessons and exploring other activities, but when is there actually time to communicate, to talk and listen?!

Despite the fact that I actually spend a great deal of my time with Sophia I suddenly noticed how rare the times are we actually have a conversation, where I find out who she is, and what she is thinking about and what she is interested in.

As soon as I noticed this important part of building our relationship and becoming more aware of each other, we went to a special little book store and found this really fitting journal. She was thrilled about the conversation journal idea, as she loves to write.

Sophia is a big fan of dancing, particularly ballet and I love to support her in that.

We are writing each other now back and forth, when we feel like it, when something comes to our mind...
This definitely makes it onto my list of treasured ideas.
